An easy and delicious Oreo dessert recipe: Oreo Puff Pastry Twists with Nutella Glaze. Flakey, sweet, and delicious Oreo and cream cheese puff pastry dipped in a sweet Nutella glaze makes the perfect dessert for parties or fun desserts.
My sweet son saw me making a savory puff pastry recipe for a party and asked if he could give me an idea for a new recipe for my blog. He told me we should do an Oreo dessert recipe and dip it in Nutella. That's when I knew he really was a genius. So this Oreo Puff Pastry Twists recipe was created by him for you.
You see Nutella puff pastry twist recipes everywhere, but the Oreo puff pastry is a unique twist on regular puff pastry desserts. You can make this for holidays, take it to work parties, or have it as a dessert for last-minute gatherings. To help us create a recipe, we used inspiration from The Little Blog of Vegan's Oreo Puff Pastry Swirls.
Ingredients for the Oreo Puff Pastry Twist
You only need 3 ingredients for this Oreo dessert.
Oreos are the primary ingredient here! I get the regular kind- no double stuff, Oreo thins, or variations, but you are welcome to try those!
Cream Cheese. I used full-fat cream cheese softened at room temperature. This really gives the Oreo dessert recipe an Oreo cheesecake flavor—it's SO good.
Puff Pastry. I generally use Pepperidge Farm puff pastry sheets, which are easy to use and readily available at grocery stores.
Ingredients for Nutella Glaze
Nutella. You can use Nutella or any chocolate hazelnut spread. I have used a dark chocolate hazelnut spread for the glaze before, which turned out great.
Powdered sugar. There are many vegetarian powdered sugars available. Check out this list for available options!
Vanilla. I love adding vanilla to almost all of my desserts.
Milk. You can use any choice of milk here. The milk is to get the consistency of glaze without solidifying.
How to Make Puff Pastry Twists
- Preheat oven to 375°F and line a large baking tray with parchment paper.
- Add the Oreos and blend until fine and ground in a small food processor or blender. Add the cream cheese and blend until it forms a dough-like consistency.
- Unroll the thawed puff pastry sheet on the parchment paper. If the puff pastry sheet is sticky, sprinkle some flour on it and your surface before using it. Use a rolling pin to slightly flatten the puff pastry out.
- Scoop the Oreo mixture onto one of the pastry sheets. Spread it all the way to the ends with a spatula. Add the second pastry sheet on top of the Oreo filling.
- Using a pizza cutter, cut the pastry into strips about half an inch wide (or thinner).
- Take both ends of the strips and twist 2-3 times. Continue with the rest of the strips and place them on the baking tray at least 1 inch apart.
- Brush the tops of each twist with milk to get a glazed golden color.
- Bake for about 15 minutes or until the pastry is golden from the top.
- While the twists are baking, make your Nutella glaze. In a small bowl, add powdered sugar, Nutella (or chocolate hazelnut spread of your choice), vanilla, and milk. Whisk until you get a glaze consistency.
- Once baked, remove the tray from the oven and sprinkle with powdered sugar (optional).
- Allow to cool slightly, then dip in your Nutella glaze and enjoy!
Tips
Make Ahead. These can be made ahead and refrigerated for later use. I recommend storing them no more than 2-3 days before serving. Reheat them in the oven at 350°F for about 5 minutes. The glaze will thicken in the fridge, so I recommend leaving it out at room temperature on the day of use.
Gluten-Free Version. We made a gluten-free version by using a gluten-free puff pastry and gluten-free Oreos!
Vegan Version. There are many vegan puff pastry options at grocery stores, so make sure to check the ingredients. You can find vegan cream cheese as a substitute for regular cream cheese, and you can make this puff pastry twist as a vegan Oreo dessert (oreos are already vegan!).
Storage. These can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. Store the puff pastry twists in an airtight container and reheat in the oven at 350°F for about 5 minutes.
